A plumbing fixture like a sink can not function properly without a sink vent.
A sink needs a vent because the pressure put on the drain pipe when water flows down the drain pipe needs to equalize.
The air needs to escape the drain pipe in order for the sink to vent.

- Step 2 Choose Placement. Air admittance valves are typically placed between the P-trap of a fixture and the drain line.
- Step 3 Install Pipes. Install the PVC drain line, the sanitary tee, and the P-trap for sink.
- Step 4 Attach AAV.
- Step 5 Check Work.
How high does a studor vent need to be?
Stack-type air admittance valves shall be located not less than 6 inches (152 mm) above the flood level rim of the highest fixture being vented.
Can I use a studor vent for a washing machine drain?
At least part of the plumbing system has to be done right for a studor to work. Within each plumbing system, a minimum of one stack vent or vent stack shall extend outdoors to the open air. Most plumbers, if they had their way, would always vent through the roof.
