A garbage disposal can be installed in either a single kitchen sink or on one half of a double sink with a strainer basket in the drain of the second half of the sink.
You can install a garbage disposal in a single sink in a couple of hours with some basic hand tools.

How do you install an InSinkErator flange?

- Disconnect the down drainpipe.
- Unscrew the large nut.
- Pry off snap ring and clean off the old plumber’s putty.
- Install the new sink flange.

- Remove the dishwasher knockout plug.
Can you replace a double sink with a single?
It’s actually quite a smart DIY job, which will give you much more usable space. Basically all kitchen sinks, regardless of the number of bowls they have, and unless you have a specialty size, will be 33 inches by 22 inches, so a single-bowl sink can easily be replaced with a double-bowl.
